SwipeBlue User Guide
Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and download SwipeBlue (that’s one word).
When you open the app, enter your phone number to find your voter record. If you have a partner code, enter that here.
If we can’t locate your voter file with your phone number, we’ll ask you for additional information to find your record.
We’ll then ask you to confirm that you vote progressive or “Vote Blue.”
We also ask for your preferred first name (or nickname) for sending texts.
We ask your permission to securely and temporarily match your phone contacts to registered voter file information based on their name and cell phone number.
Tap “Match my contacts” to allow access to your contacts.
This will allow you to see which contacts are progressive voters and whether they live in districts where we have active campaigns, so that you can text them about voting or taking action.
Your matched contacts only appear on your phone – SwipeBlue doesn’t save that data.
It may take a few minutes to match your contacts.
iPhones require you to specifically allow SwipeBlue to access your contacts. Click “Continue” to allow.
iPhones also require you to allow SwipeBlue to share your contacts individually or all at once. Select “Allow Full Access” so we can match all your contacts.
Remember SwipeBlue does not store your contacts - we only match them and then remove them from our server.
If you install without a partner code, you will go to My Campaigns.
At first you will see a list of contacts in your town, including yourself. (Your town is your zip code.)
To see more of your contacts, click the other filters - County, Dem, or Matched.
To create your first campaign, swipe your own name left (blue).
This will pop up a message box with instructions at the top and your name in the middle as both recipient and sender.
Compose your message in the empty box. Make it simple and friendly and add a link to take action.
Click “Save” when finished.
Next choose regular texting or WhatsApp to personalize your message. When you’re finished, hit Send!
Since you started by swiping yourself, your message will be sent by your app and then received. Don’t be confused - your friends will only see your message once.
Return to your list of friends and swipe everyone you think would support the action you created.
If you click “Campaigns” at the bottom you’ll see our National campaigns.
You can tap the tabs at the top to see campaigns in your state (center), or other states(right).
If you entered a partner code at the beginning, you’ll be brought directly to that campaign.
To access other campaigns, tap the campaigns button at the bottom (or the back arrow in the upper left) and you’ll be brought to campaign list.
When you select a campaign, you’ll see which of your progressive contacts live in the relevant district or state so that you know who to text.
To send a text, swipe left on their name to see the pre-drafted text message.
You can personalize the text however you’d like.
If you want to save a customized version of the text, tap “custom” and save a new template.
Tap “text now” and it will prompt you to send the text in your regular messaging app, so your friend receives a message from you directly, just like any other text you’d send them.
Congratulations - you’ve sent your first text!
Now you can swipe the next contact on the list and continue your outreach.
